Evan Todd concluded a legendary Montana career on Wednesday evening at the 2024 Outdoor NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. Todd finished 22nd in the country with a throw of 214-1 to receive an honorable mention to the All-American team.
"Obviously Evan didn't get the result that he was looking for coming in, but as a program we have a lot to be thankful for in having had Evan at the University of Montana and being a Montana resident and reaching the highest level that collegiate sports have to offer," head coach Doug Fraley said.
Â
It's a bittersweet ending to the career for Todd, who had reached at least 227 feet in six straight meets entering the National Championship. There is plenty to be proud of for the Kalispell product, who is not done throwing yet.
He opened with a scratch and threw 205-4 on his second attempt before improving on his final throw of the day.
Todd will return to Hayward Field to compete in the USA Olympic Team Trials on Friday, June 21 at 4:30 p.m.
Â
He concludes his Montana career as a three-time Big Sky Conference champion and holder of the program record with a throw of 246-6 at the conference meet earlier this season.
Â
Todd has seven of the 10 best throws in Grizzly history and is the first Montana athlete to reach the NCAA Championship since 2019.
"I'm proud of the career that he has had at the University of Montana," Fraley said. "He's always represented the University with honor and distinction and Evan has been a hall of fame Grizzly in my opinion."
