It's again time to show your Griz Pride. The University of Montana invites the Missoula community to "Paint Missoula Maroon" to welcome UM students back to campus after summer break and celebrate a new academic year.
The fourth-annual event also recognizes the deep connection between the community and Montana's flagship university.
On Tuesday, Aug. 13, staff and students distributed Griz Yard Signs to area businesses and neighborhoods to "Paint Missoula Maroon."
Businesses and community members also are encouraged to display their own Griz flags, banners and window paintings. Community members displaying Griz gear can share photos on social media with the hashtag #PaintMissoulaMaroon.
The "Paint Missoula Maroon" event kicks off a busy time at the University. On Monday, Aug. 19, UM students will move into residence halls and the first day of classes is Monday, Aug. 26. The first Griz football game this season will be a "Black Out" game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, in Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Additionally, UM will host Homecoming Oct. 7-12.
"With the kickoff of the fall semester right around the corner, we are excited to again paint Missoula maroon to welcome the class of 2028 to town," said UM President Seth Bodnar. "We encourage businesses, households and all supporters to get their Griz flags, banners and yard signs on display as we launch another vibrant school year at UM."
Additional yard signs are now SOLD OUT at the GSA office. Limited quantities will be available at Griz Fest at Scheels the evening of 8/16.
This event is possible due to the generosity of Scheels, a strong partner of Grizzly Athletics.
