Lady Griz lose in Greeley

A nine-minute stretch of cold shooting in the first half was too much for Montana to overcome on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Griz lost 57-49 to Northern Colorado at Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley.

Leading 13-8 late in the first quarter after a 3-pointer by Adria Lincoln, Montana scored two points over the next 9:15 to fall behind 25-15.

The Bears led 29-18 at the half as the Lady Griz shot just 6 for 27 (.222) through the first 20 minutes with 10 turnovers.

Montana shot 12 for 25 (.480) in the second half but could never generate enough offense to get closer than four points over the third and fourth quarters.

The Lady Griz (5-10, 1-3 BSC) had their chances in the final period.

Dani Bartsch hit a short jumper off an inbounds pass that made it 45-41 with 7:42 to go, but Northern Colorado answered with a 3-pointer to up its lead back to seven.

Montana again pulled within four, 48-44, on an MJ Bruno 3-pointer with 4:11 to go. The Lady Griz had two possessions to get closer but missed a 3-pointer, then two free throws.

Aniah Hall scored inside to up UNC's lead to 50-44, then Julia Riley hit the shot that ended Montana's hopes of a comeback, a 3-pointer from the left wing with 1:23 remaining that made it 53-44.

The Lady Griz opened their road trip with a 65-46 setback at Northern Arizona on Thursday night. It's the first time Montana has been held to fewer than 50 points in consecutive games since January 2016.

Aby Shubert, making her first start as a Lady Griz, scored 12 points, all her points coming from the 3-point line, where she was 4 for 7. Mack Konig had 11 points and seven assists.

London Gamble, a first-year transfer from Siena, led Northern Colorado (8-7, 1-3 BSC) with 18 points.

Montana will host Weber State (5-8, 2-1 BSC) on Thursday at 7 p.m., Idaho State (6-8, 1-2 BSC) at 2 p.m. next Saturday. The Wildcats defeated the Bengals on Saturday in Ogden, winning 72-67 in overtime.
