Oregon shot 51.5 percent and forced 23 Montana turnovers as the Ducks rolled to a 90-47 victory over the Lady Griz on Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.
Â
Oregon (2-0) led 21-10 after the first quarter, 44-18 at the half and built its lead to 44 points in the fourth quarter.
Â
"Their length really bothered us. We got some good looks early and got them out of the zone but we have to continue doing a good job handling the ball," said coach Nate Harris.
Â
Mack Konig led Montana with 23 points, her 10th career game of 20 or more. Avery Waddington scored six points in the opening period, finished with eight for the game.
Â
The Lady Griz played well to start the game, getting open looks against Oregon's zone and turning the ball over only three times in the opening 10 minutes, but shot just 4 for 14 in the first quarter.
Â
Montana went 2 for 13 from the 3-point line in the first half and was 3 for 20 from the arc through three quarters. The Lady Griz finished 7 for 28 from the 3-point line.
Â
The Ducks got into the paint consistently in both transition and in their half-court offense, scoring 52 points close to the rim. Oregon also went an efficient 8 for 20 from the 3-point line.
Â
"We can't waste this learning opportunity," added Harris. "This is a great chance to learn. We had some great opportunities when we just didn't play as hard as we could in the first half."
Â
Montana shot it and scored it better in the second half but also had 13 of its turnovers in the third and fourth quarters.
Â
"The second half, we scrapped a little bit more but we turned it over more," said Harris. "We've got to be able to combine those two things. You've got to be able to play hard but also play smart."
Â
Konig shot 10 for 18, hit two of her three 3-pointers and added a pair of assists.
Â
"My favorite play of the game was maybe seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter and Mack is diving on the floor," said Harris. "That's leadership. That's what's going to get us over the hump.
Â
"We'll shoot the ball better and handle the ball better against length. That's a big, long, athletic team that does a good job of playing that way. Great learning experience for us."
Â
Montana (1-1) will play Washington (1-0) on Monday at 7 p.m. (MT) in Seattle.
