Griz add 20 to open early signing period

Montana head coach Bobby Hauck and his staff added 20 players, each from the prep ranks, to the Grizzlies' incoming class of 2026 as the early signing period opened on Wednesday.

Montana started the recruiting cycle with another of its most highly-touted group of signees. For the second-straight year, the Griz inked eight players with a three-star rating or better among the early signees.

The incoming class is balanced as well with nine players added to the defense, seven to the offense, and four singing as a specialist or an athlete who will find a home upon arrival next fall. Hauck and the Grizzlies paid particular attention to the fronts as well, adding seven players to the offensive or defensive lines.

As usual, it's also a largely homegrown group with nine of the 20 signees hailing from the Treasure State. Montana was the most heavily recruited state in the group, followed by four players from Washington, two from California, and one each from Arkansas, Hawaii, Iowa, Texas, and Utah.

Justin Green added a running back to his room in Courtney Rogers who is set to come to Missoula all the way from Blytheville, Arkansas, a rare recruiting ground for the Grizzlies. You have to go back to 1949 to find the last time the Grizzlies had a letterman from the state of Arkansas when Mike Kumpuris came to UM from Little Rock. Rogers could now become one of just three all-time lettermen from Arkansas as well.

Montana's recruiting pipeline to Hawaii was again fruitful this year with Dane Kellner of Honolulu signing to come to UM. The Griz currently have six players on the roster from the islands, and have a tradition of success out of the Aloha State.

"As always, we continue to focus on prep recruiting as the foundation of our program, and I think we've put together a good class of high school seniors to join the Grizzlies next fall. They are quality young men, good football players, and we feel really good about them," said Hauck.

"Now we will start looking at transfer recruiting. There is also the potential we might sign a couple more high school guys on the February signing date."

Montana will announce potential transfers into the program upon the start of the new semester, or when they have officially enrolled in school and arrived on campus.
