Griz report for fall camp August 7
7/28/2025 2:15:00 PM | Football
Montana officially begins its quest for a 20th Big Sky Championship in early August when the Grizzlies report for the opening of the fall training camp, head coach Bobby Hauck announced Monday.
Â
Players report back to Missoula on Thursday, Aug. 7, for two days of meetings, equipment fitting, and walk-throughs. The Griz then return to Dornblaser Field at UM's South Campus facility for the first official practice on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Â
The first 10 practices of camp through Wednesday, Aug. 20, will be held at Dornblaser and are open to the public and media, with each set to begin at approximately 2:30 p.m. Practices on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday the following week will be held at the Riverbowl and are also open to the public.
Â
Practices will be closed to media and public Aug. 21-22, Aug. 27, and Aug. 29. All practices are open to Quarterback Club members.
Â
The Griz start a historic 2025 season on Saturday, Sept. 6, under the lights at Washington-Grizzly Stadium against Central Washington for the first of an FCS record eight regular season home games. Kickoff against the Wildcats is set for 6 p.m.
Â
Montana's fall camp begins roughly a week later than usual because technically week one of the season is UM's bye. The Griz open against CWU and will play 12-straight regular season games through the annual Brawl of the Wild game on Nov. 22. Eight of those 12 games will be played at home, including six of the first seven and every game in the month of September.
Â
The Griz will field a new-look squad this season after losing 26 players to graduation in 2024 – an unusually large class size as the remaining vestiges of pandemic-era eligibility extensions matriculated through the program.
Â
With a robust 60 players back on the roster from last year UM is long on familiar faces but short on game experience, returning 28 lettermen and seven starters from last year's team that finished fifth on the league table at 9-5.
Â
Hauck enters his 14th season overall leading the Grizzlies in 2025 and is the winningest coach in Big Sky Conference history with 138 wins at UM. With 79 Big Sky wins he's also got a chance to become the league's all-time leader in conference game victories this season, needing seven more to pass Jerome Sourers' career total of 85 at NAU.
Â
Montana was picked to finish second the conference title race by media members around the league and third by the league's coaches in the Big Sky preseason polls.

Season tickets to UM's historic home slate and single game tickets are on sale now at GrizTix.com.
