Griz volleyball wins 6th straight AVCA Team Academic Award

The University of Montana volleyball program received the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for its outstanding performance in the classroom, the organization announced Thursday.

The Grizzlies maintained an impressive 3.66 cumulative GPA over the course of the 2025-26 school year with 10 student-athletes maintaining at least a 3.70 GPA.

This is the sixth straight season that Montana has earned the team award and the 10th time overall in the program's history. In order to qualify for the award, teams need to maintain a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3.

Olivia LaBeau maintained a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student at Montana. Annika Wright had a 3.99 GPA as a freshman and Gracie Cagle has a cumulative GPA of 3.97.

Montana had four athletes record a 4.0 GPA during the 2026 spring semester. Alexis Batezel, Sydney Pierce, Cagle, and LaBeau all maintained perfect academics this spring.

Montana's 3.66 GPA matched its best under Lawrence for the second straight year. The Grizzlies had a 3.66 GPA in 2024-25 and a 3.60 GPA the year before that.
