North End Zone Timeline
1986 – Washington-Grizzly Stadium opened its doors to fans for the first time during the middle of the 1986 season. At that point in time, Washington-Grizzly Stadium had a capacity of just 12,500, with the ability to increase to 15,000, when north and south end zone seating – just grassy berms at the time – were made available, based off of weather and demand.
1995 – Prior to the 1995 season, Washington-Grizzly Stadium, now entering its ninth season, experienced its first stadium expansion, adding permanent end zone seating to both the north and south ends of the stadium. This increased capacity to 18,845 and gave the North End Zone its first permanent seating.
2003 – Ahead of the 2003 season, approximately 4,000 seats were added to the North End Zone, increasing capacity to 23,117, and giving the North End Zone its current look with three center sections, flanked by the pies on each side.
Â
The North End Zone.
Just a few words, but a statement that elicits a unifying feeling, produces a pulsating energy and is the heartbeat of a fanbase.Â
The North End Zone.
Just a few words, but ones that – when said in the Treasure State – everyone knows exactly what it is referring to. A phrase as synonymous with Griz Football as Super Dave, Monte or 37.
The North End Zone.
A direction. A section of the stadium. But so, so much more.
You're the direction Grizzlies run towards in jubilation. And opponents run away from out of fear.
But there's no running from the North End Zone. More often than not, in fact, opponents get backed up into the mouth of the craziness.
Over the past three seasons alone, you have helped cause 76 false starts, and over the past three decades, you've without a doubt won Montana a game or two.
There's a reason, after all, that Montana has won more games in the 21st Century than any other FCS program.
In a stadium known as the Mecca, the North End Zone is its hallowed grounds.
Year after year, you project ear-piercing sound, unrelenting passion and remain the heartbeat of Griz Nation.
The stories that can be told from those seats will be passed down from generation to generation. Because being a North End Zone Crazy isn't about a seat, but a family – either the one you're born into, or The Family You Choose.
We've made history together, experienced jubilation together, and now – finally – the lifeblood of our fanbase gets a little bit of the overdue recognition it deserves.
Because the North End Zone isn't just a name that represents Montana Football – It is Montana Football!
