Biography

2015: Van Ackeren is the leading returning tackler for the Griz... Picked to the preseason All-America third team  by STATS FCS... Named to the 2015 preseason All-Big Sky Conference team.

2014: Kendrick was the Grizzlies’ ninth leading returning tackler. He played in all 14 games and started in 13. He had a total of 122 tackles, 56 unassisted. He had one sack for a loss of six yards. He had one interception for 50 yards against Sacramento State. He had two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries. He had three fumbles and one forced fumble. His two fumble returns were at Southern Utah and against Montana State. He was on the second team defense on the all-conference team.

2013: He played in 12 games of 13 games and had 29 tackles.  His 29 tackles (14 unassisted) were the 15th most on the team.  He was named the Grizzlies’ “Special Teams Player of the Year,” and had several tackles on kickoff and punt coverage teams. He was moved from safety to linebacker in the second half of spring drills.

HAWAI’I: He played linebacker in 2012 at Hawai’i, and he had 25 tackles.  In his redshirt season (2011) at UH he was named the Scout Player of the Year on defense.

HIGH SCHOOL: He was the Seattle Times’ 3A Washington state Player of the Year in 2010 after helping Bellevue High School to a 13-1 record, as the Wolverines won their third straight state title.  He passed for 960 yards and rushed for 550.  On defense he had 98 tackles and six interceptions his senior season.  He was named his conference’s MVP as a senior.  His junior year he had 90 tackles, four forced fumbles, and three interceptions. He was a three-time all-state and all-conference pick in football, and his teams went a combined 39-3 during that time span.  He was also a two-time all-conference selection in basketball.  His prep football coach was Butch Goncharoff.

CAREER HIGHS: He had six tackles against Oklahoma Panhandle State in 2013. He had two fumble recoveries in 2014, at Southern Utah and vs. Montana State for 10 yards. He had one interception for 50 yards vs. Sacramento State, also in 2014.

PERSONAL: He is pursuing a dual degree in Finance and Management.  Birth date: August 19, 1993.  His mom is Michelle Van Ackeren of Bellevue.
