2016: Named Montana’s 2016 Steve Carlson MVP Award winner for offense at the team’s annual award banquet … Set new school record for completions in a single game with 47 against Cal Poly on 9/24/16, breaking Dave Dickenson’s 21-year-old record. 47 completions also tied Big Sky record … Passed for 2785 yards as a senior, placing his 2016 season at No. 16 on UM’s top passing seasons list … Completed 65.6 percent of his passes as a senior (260-for-396), making his completion rate the seventh-best in UM history … Averaged 28.89 completions per game as a senior, the second-best percentage in all of FCS football … Also passed for an average of 309.4 yards per game in 2016, the sixth-most nationally … Threw 25 touchdown passes as a senior, No. 11 on UM’s season TD’s list … His career total of 4809 pass yards places him at No. 11 on UM’s all-time passing yards list … His 37 career touchdown passes put him at No. 12 on the all-time passing TD’s list at UM ... 2015: Despite only playing seven games due to injury, Gustafson put together the 25th-best passing season in Montana history with 1,984 yards … Entered fall camp as Coach Stitt’s starting quarterback, and started in all seven of the games he played … Passed for 12 touchdowns, and completed 167 of his 290 attempts for a 57.6 completion percentage… Ran the ball 25 times for 76 yards, averaged 4.1 yards per game on the ground and posted a long run of 15 yards … Set career high of 434 yards in a game in Aug. 29 defeat of North Dakota State … 434 yards is the 17th-best single game passing performance in UM history ... Named the NCAA FCS Player of the Week for his 400+ yard performance on Aug. 29 … Threw for a career high four touchdowns against Montana State on Nov. 21... HIGH SCHOOL: He passed for 2,913 yards and 20 TDs with just eight interceptions to lead Billings West to an 11-2 record as a senior in 2011, when he was chosen the Class AA state MVP on offense. He is West's all-time leading passer with 6,202 yards. He is one of just eight players in Montana prep history to surpass 6,000 passing yards. He was 22-8 as a starter, including 22-5 his junior and senior seasons. He was one of just three Montana athletes to play the annual East-West Shrine Game, Montana-Dakota Football All-Star Game, and the Montana-Wyoming Football All-Star Basketball game. His prep football coach was Paul Klaboe. He was named to Great Falls Tribune "Super Team". He was named the Midland Roundtable (Billings) Athlete of the Year. He was a starter on West's 22-1state championship basketball team as a senior.
