Montana: Greg will be starting at tight end for the third straight season, and has started in 25 games in a row. He is UM's second leading returning receiver in 2012.
2011: He was Montana's fifth leading (tie) receiver with 22 receptions. He was a first team All-Big Sky Conference selection. He started all 14 games.
2010: He started all 11 games, and was Montana's sixth leading receiver with 17 catches for 176 yards. He had two or more catches in five games.
2009: He saw limited time because there were two senior starters at his position, but saw considerable action on special teams. He played in 10 games and did not have a pass reception.
2008: He was a redshirt at Montana.
High School: He was an all-state pick in football, basketball, and track. He earned 12 letters: four each in football, basketball, and track and field at Fairview High School...he was a rare four-time all-conference selection in all three sports. He was a two-time all-state and team MVP pick in football; a three-time all-state selection in basketball, and tabbed all-state four times in track...he served as a captain in both football and basketball. His basketball team won the district title his senior year, going 20-6...high school football coach was Kevin Clausen.
Career Highs: He had 5 catches against Weber State in 2011, while his career-long reception is 36 yards at Northern Arizona last year. He had 62 receiving yards against Idaho State in 2010. He had a 23-yard touchdown catch in the season opener in 2010 against Western State.
Personal: His parents are Jim and Mary Hardy of Fairview. His major is history. Birth date: Jan. 2, 1990. Greg's dad, Jim, played football and basketball at Western Montana College (UM-Western).
Quoting Coach Delaney: "Greg possesses all of the things you need to be in the upper echelon at his position in the country. He has the size at 6-4-plus and weighs around 250, and he runs very well. He is from a small high school in Montana, where he had to do everything. He also played basketball and ran track, and was just a great all-around athlete coming out of high school. It was a matter of where are you going to play him, defensive end or tight end. For the sake of the Griz offense he is our guy at tight end.
"He will be a go-to guy for us going through the season. He can catch the ball and run, but even more important to our football team, he is an outstanding blocker and a very physical player, and he's also an outstanding leader."
