MONTANA: Stephen is one of the top punters in the FCS and in Montana history. He currently averages 42.81 yards per punt, which would surpass UM's career record (42.56, Mike Rice, 1985-86). So far in his career he has 23 punts of 50 or more yards, and 38 inside the opponents' 20-yard line.
2013: He was ranked fifth in the Big Sky Conference and seventh in the FCS, averaging 43.9 yards on 49 punts. He was an honorable mention all-league selection for the second year in a row.
2012: He was ranked 21st in the nation, averaging 41.83 yards on 54 punts, including 23 inside the opponents' 20-yard line. He was an honorable mention All-Big Sky pick.
2011: He was a redshirt at Montana.
HIGH SCHOOL: He had an exceptional senior year at Capital High School, when he averaged 43.4-yards per punt, and was named first team All-Idaho 5-A at punter. His senior season he was tabbed all-league at punter and at kicker (when he had 44 of 65 kickoffs for touchbacks). He was chosen Capital's special teams MVP as a senior. He averaged 42.0 yards as a junior at Lutheran High School in Villa Park, Calif. His head coach at Capital his senior year was Todd Simis.
CAREER HIGHS: He averaged 49.2 yards a punt (five punts) against Liberty last season. He had nine punts at North Dakota a year ago. His long is 62 yards versus Southern Utah, and he had a 61-yarder in the South Dakota game.
PERSONAL: His major is political science. Birth date: Nov. 21, 1992. His guardians are his aunt and uncle, Cindy and Dan Ediger of Boise. His mom is Cathy Shaw of Fullerton, Calif.
