2015: Holmes put together one of the finest seasons of any player in Montana history in 2015, compiling a national-best 18 sacks en-route to being awarded the STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Year award.
He finished his four-year career at UM with 34.5 sacks, second on the Grizzlies' all-time career list. He also sits second on UM's all-time career tackle for loss list with 49.5 TFLs during his illustrious career.
Holmes was named to four separate All-America teams: the FCS Coaches' All-America team, the Walter Camp Foundation All-America team, the Associated Press All-America first team and the STATS FCS All-America first team. He was also named to the sports blog CollegeSportsMadness.com's All-America team.
He was Montana’s third-leading tackler in 2015, racking up 87 total takedowns and 24 tackles-for-loss in addition to his 18 sacks. He also put in nine QB hits and forced three fumbles while starting in all 13 of the Grizzlies’ contests.
Holmes, a marketing major, was also named to the 2016 National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society after maintaining a 3.5 GPA in his four years as a Grizzly.
2014: Holmes started at defensive end for the third straight season. He was UM’s seventh leading returning tackler. Holmes had 66 total tackles along with 14 TFLs and 7.5 sacks. He also had two forced fumbles and four quarterback hurries. He was named to the Big Sky Conference’s all-conference football team as an honorable mention on defense and earned Big Sky academic honors for the fall semester.
2013: He started all 13 games and was the Grizzlies’ 13th leading tackler with 37 stops. He was third (tie) on the team with four sacks, and tied for fourth in tackles for loss with six. He was an honorable mention All-Big Sky Conference pick. He was named to the league’s all-academic team for the second season in a row.
2012: He played in all 11 games and started in one (Liberty) as a true freshman. He was third on the team with 5.0 sacks, and 15th in total tackles with 24.
HIGH SCHOOL: He was the 2011 co-defensive player of the year in the Midwestern League as a senior. He was also named first team all-state and earned all-league honors as a senior. He was an all-conference selection three times in football both ways. He served as a team captain in basketball as a junior and senior. He was a four-year letterman in hoops and in track, and garnered three letters in football. He was named the co-Conference “Defensive Player of the Year” as a senior. His prep football coach was Jacob Shauffler. He was a versatile track athlete, winning the state champion in the shot put, and placing fourth in the high hurdles.
GAME AND SEASON HIGHS: He had nine tackles and four sacks against Idaho State in 2013. He had a season-high seven tackles against Cal Poly in 2013.
