MONTANA: Zack is one of the most talented defensive ends in the FCS and in the Big Sky Conference. He is currently ranked eight in career sacks with 20 and tied for ninth in tackles for loss with 29.5. He will be starting for the third season in a row in 2014. He is Montana's second leading returning tackler. He has played in 38 games in a row.
2013: He started all 13 games for the 10-3 Grizzlies and had another outstanding season. He was ranked among the Big Sky Conference's leaders in sacks (third, with 8.5) and tackles for loss (tied for third with 16.5). He was ranked 27th in the FCS in tackles for loss, averaging 1.3 per game. He was fifth on the team with 64 tackles. He tied for the team lead (with safety Matt Hermanson) with three forced fumbles. He was a first team all-league selection for the second straight season.
He was given the Grizzly legacy uniform number of 37 (he previously wore number 58) by graduated two-time All-America linebacker Jordan Tripp. "Wags" was chosen co-captain on defense by his teammates, sharing that honor with senior nose tackle Tonga Takai. For the second consecutive season he was tabbed UM's Larry Miller Award. Winner, which is given annually to the team's outstanding defensive lineman.
2012: He had a breakout season and was ranked fourth in the FCS with 1.05 sacks a game. He was sixth (tie) on the team with 50 total tackles. He had a team-high 11.5 sacks, and was second with 13.0 tackles for loss. He was named to three All-American teams: Associated Press (second team), Sports Network (third team), and Phil Steele Magazine (fourth team). He was a first team All-Big Sky pick.
2011: He played in all 14 games.
2010: He was named UM's co-defensive "Scout Team Player of the Year." He was a Griz redshirt.
HIGH SCHOOL: He was a second team all-state selection in football as a senior at local Sentinel High School. He was a first team all-conference pick in hoops as a junior. He earned two letters in both football and track and field, and three in basketball. He served as team captain in football and basketball as a senior. His high school football coach was Pete Joseph. He was an academic all-state pick in basketball as a junior.
CAREER HIGHS: He had 3.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss against Weber State last season, and 3.0 TFLs and a pair of sacks at North Dakota a year ago. He had 10 tackles against Coastal Carolina last season, and verus Northern Arizona in 2012. He had two forced fumbles at Weber State in 2012.
PERSONAL: His major is communications studies. His mom is Lori Muchmore (Dave) and his dad is Marko Wagenmann, both of Lolo, Montana. Birth date: August 8, 1992.
