The 2025-26 season is Leia Beattie’s first year as an assistant coach at Montana. She was hired in May 2025, shortly after her collegiate playing career concluded.
Beattie, from Midland, Texas, played collegiately at both Montana State and Northern Arizona. Over five seasons between the two schools, she played in 159 games, making 115 starts.
She was on teams that went 111-49 and never finished lower than third in the Big Sky Conference, totaling 1,452 career points and 281 made 3-pointers.
She played in the 2022 NCAA tournament with Montana State and in the WNIT in 2024 and WBIT in 2025 with Northern Arizona.
As a sophomore at Montana State in 2021-22, Beattie and the Bobcats won the Big Sky tournament and advanced to face Stanford in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
As a junior in 2022-23, her final season at MSU, Beattie and the Bobcats tied for the Big Sky regular-season championship. Beattie was voted honorable mention All-Big Sky.
Beattie played her final two seasons at Northern Arizona, winning 52 games with the Lumberjacks. In two seasons at NAU, Beattie averaged 10.8 points and hit 155 3-pointers.
She was voted second-team All-Big Sky in 2023-24 after helping the Lumberjacks to a runner-up finish at the conference tournament and a spot in the WNIT.
As a fifth-year senior in 2024-25, she helped NAU win 27 games, finish second in the Big Sky regular-season standings and advance to the WBIT.
Beattie earned an undergraduate degree in finance from Northern Arizona in 2024, a master’s degree in business analytics from NAU in 2025.
Her mom, Kelly (Pilcher) Beattie, was a two-time All-Big Sky point guard at Montana in the 90s and played in three NCAA tournaments. She was induced into the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame in 2024.
Her aunt, Carla (Beattie) Cunneen, also played for the Lady Griz in the 90s and was her high school coach at Midland Classical Academy.
