Tribute on tap Saturday

Fans encouraged to wear red, white and blue
There will be no bolting through the tunnel for the football team. Most of the colors in the seats will not be maroon and silver. Tailgaters are closing fifteen minutes early.
All strange signs that things will be different when the Montana Grizzlies host the Western Washington Vikings in Washington-Grizzly Stadium Saturday.
"We want to remember what has happened," head football coach Joe Glenn said. "We will be honoring all of the people affected by this tragedy."
Prior to the kick-off on Saturday the UM Athletics Department will pay a special tribute to America as the nation tries to recover from terrorist attacks.
"We will be walking out on the field, no running out of the tunnel this week," Glenn said.
The special pregame ceremony will include both football teams, the UM Cheer and Dance squads, the Army ROTC Color Guard, the UM marching band, several other UM student-athletes and a special musical performance by UM alumnus Jim Cole.
The UM marching band will perform their usual pre-game routine and will play the Star Spangled Banner at the end of the ceremony.
To encourage all fans to attend the pre-game tribute, the tailgating area will be closing at 12:45. Kick-off is still set for 1:05 p.m.
"I think there is a lot of anticipation for these festivities," UM athletics director Wayne Hogan said. "As a viable part of this community, this is our chance to show respect."
Thanks to a grass roots campaign by local radio station KYSS FM, after kickoff the tribute will move from the field into the stands.
KYSS FM, which has recently been joined in campaign by several other local radio stations, is encouraging a red, white and blue theme for fans at the game this weekend.
"What could we do to show our support now that sporting events are getting started again," KYSS FM disc jockey Denny Bedard said. "The response has been terrific."
The plan is to have everyone sitting in an odd section to wear red or white and everyone sitting in an even section to wear blue or white. Prior to the game KYSS FM will be giving away colored T-shirts based on section at their booth in the tailgate area.
"This is a nice idea," Hogan said. "I hope people choose to participate."
There will be no special tribute activities at half-time but as usual there will be performances by the band, cheer and dance squads and Little Grizzly Football.
Plans to return to a more normal pre-game routine are in place for next week's home game against Eastern Washington.
