Rene Jacques had 11 points and Ronnie Walton had 10. The Hornets shot just 33 percent from the field. Montana's zone defense gave the Hornets fits throughout, as the Sacramento State guards were forced to shoot from beyond the 3-point arc, where they hit 7-of-18.

After a steal by Bell, Slider hit a layup, followed by a Bell three-pointer. Bell nailed another three, and Slider hit two free throws. But the Hornets came back, using threes from Jones and Leo Cravey in an 8-2 run to make it 26-20 with eight minutes left.
