UM basketball team defeats Denver 75-47

Four players scored in double figures as The University of Montana Grizzlies defeated the University of Denver Pioneers Tuesday night in UM's Adams Center/Dahlberg Arena.
Montana (1-1) was led by senior guard David Bell's 16 points. Freshman guard Kevin Criswell scored 13 points off the bench, junior forward Steve Horne added 11, and junior forward Victor Venters added 10. Senior center Marcus Rosser grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds.
The Pioneers (0-2) were led by sophomore guard Erik Benzel's 12 points. He was the only Denver player in double figures. Junior center Brett Starkey had 9 boards for the Pioneers.
Montana trailed briefly in the opening seconds, but jumped out to 36-22 halftime lead and were never threatened in the second half.
The Grizzlies made 32-of-60 shots from the field for 53.3 percent and made all five of their free throw attempts. The Pioneers shot just 28.8 percent from the floor, on 15 of-52 shooting.
Montana is at the Great Alaska Shootout , Nov. 27-30, and opens the tourney against 9th ranked Michigan State Thursday, November 28 at 10:00 p.m. (Mountain) on ESPN.
Denver hosts Eastern Washington Saturday, November 30.
