. After posting two big wins at the Texas State Classic last week, Montana State is currently the only undefeated team in the Big Sky. The Bobcats have been getting the job done on both ends of the court. Offensively, MSU is averaging 79 points per game, while shooting 45 percent from the field. In all, six Bobcats are shooting 40 percent or better. Defensively, MSU is holding its opponents to 61.8 points and 35 percent from the field. Kati Burrows and Sheila Hutchison were named to the All-Tournament team at the TSU Classic, with Hutchison garnering MVP honors after averaging 20.5 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals per game. Head coach Robin Potera-Haskins is one of a few collegiate coaches that have coached at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels and her current four-year collegiate record stands at 167-81.
. Montana went 2-1 last week with wins over Syracuse and Hartford, and a loss to No. 2 Texas at the Rainbow Wahine Classic. Brooklynn Lorenzen averaged 31 minutes per game in Hawaii and had 29 assists and just three turnovers. As a team, Montana has 75 assists versus just 43 turnovers for the season. Julie Deming was named to the All-Tournament squad.
. Lindy Whitley is taking advantage of her final season at Idaho State. After scoring just 132 points and making 13 three's in her three-year career, she scored 62 points and made 14 trey's in one week. In the win over Boise State, Whitley hit 11-of-18 from the field for a career-high 31 points, including a school record 9-of-15 shots from behind the arc. ISU's 3-1 start is the best for a Bengal team since the 1997-98 squad started the season 5-0. After failing to top 90 points in any game last year, the Bengals have already hit that mark three times in four games this year.
. Eastern Washington went 1-2 last week with a win over Cleveland State and losses to in-state rival Washington State and Ball State. Against the Cougars, the Eagles had a one-point lead nearing the end of the game, but lost it when Washington State hit a two-foot jumper with just under four seconds left in the game. Kathleen Nygaard passed the 1,000 career points record during the East Carolina Tournament last week. Her current total of 1,029 is just 52 points from earning a spot on EWU's top ten all time scorers' list. In addition, her career average of 13.2 points is second for Eastern's all time career scorers average while her current career field goal percentage of .515 is third in the record books. Nygaard's 21.7 points and eight rebounds per game last week earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.
. Portland State went 1-1 last week at the Northstar Invitational, with a loss to Army and a win over Morgan State, bringing its current record to 1-3. The last time the Viks started the season at that mark (1998-99), they went on to post a record of 18-10 and advance to the Big Sky Championship game. The Vikings are shooting 44 percent from the field and have four players shooting at a better than 50 percent clip. Sarah Hedgepeth was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 16 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
. Northern Arizona won its lone game of the week Saturday at Nevada. The 44 points allowed by the 'Jacks marked the fewest allowed by NAU in a road game since allowing just 40 points to Sacramento State in February of 2002. Lacey Tolbert recorded her 100th career steal with her first of five thefts at Nevada.
. Weber State dropped to 0-4 on the season with their two losses at the St. Mary's Tournament. The last time the team was 0-4 to start the year was in 1997-98, when it lost their first 10 games and finished the year 7-20. Much of the Wildcats' struggles can be traced to the defensive end of the floor. After being one of the top teams in the nation last year in scoring defense at 55.8 points allowed per game, the 'Cats are allowing just over 70 points per game this year (70.8).
. Sacramento State went 0-2 last week at the Oregon Classic, but showed a sign of things to come after shooting a season-high .510 from the field against Kansas. The Hornets were also able to erase a 20-point deficit against the Jayhawks by holding them scoreless for 9:32 en route to a 16-0 run. The Hornets have a balanced scoring attack this season as four players have led the squad in scoring through four games.
