David Bell Named Griz Hoop MVP

Senior guard David Bell was presented the C.R. Dragstedt Award (Most Valuable Player) Wednesday April 30) night at The University of Montana's annual team dinner held at the Depot Restaurant. Griz basketball awards are voted on by the players.
Bell, a 6-1, 175-pound guard from Oakland, Calif., was a unanimous All-Big Sky Conference selection this past season. Last year he led Montana in scoring, averaging 17.6 points a game, which ranked him third in the league.
Bell was among the league leaders in three-pointers made per game (first, 3.27), free throw percentage third, .836), three-point field goal percentage (sixth, .387), steals (ninth, 1.20), and assists (14th, 2.73).
Freshman guard Kevin Criswell was the recipient of UM's Naseby Rhinehart Award, which is presented annually to the team's "Most Inspirational Player."
Criswell, a 6-2, 185-pounder from Colstrip. Montana, was also named the Big Sky's Freshman of the Year. He was the Grizzlies' second leading scorer, averaging 15.1 points a game, which ranked him fourth in conference.
Criswell was sixth in the Big Sky in free throw percentage at .803, sixth in treys made per game (2.07), 11th in steals (1.10), and 12th in three-point percentage (.344) and offensive rebounds (1.57).
Marcus Rosser, a 6-8, 245-pound senor center from Philadelphia, Penn., was presented the John Eaheart Award (Outstanding Defensive Player). Rosser was ranked fourth in the Big Sky in blocked shots with 31 (1.03 a game) and rebounding (a team-leading 7.2 per contest). He led the Griz in field goal percentage, making 76-of-139 shots for 54.7 percent.
Forward Ryan Pederson was given the Allan Nielsen Award, which goes annually to the UM player who "Best Represents Grizzly Basketball." Pederson, a 6-9 junior from Maple Grove, Minn., is a three-year letterman at UM, who has played in 83 career games and started in 12 (eight this season).
