Griz scratch Bengals

Junior forward Kamarr Davis had career-highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the host University of Montana Grizzlies to a 91-76 Big Sky Conference victory over the Idaho State Bengals Thursday evening in front of 3,217 fans in UM's Dahlberg Arena/Adams Center.
It was Montana's first home game since December 16.
The Grizzlies (2-1 Big Sky/5-10 overall) started the game red-hot from the field, making 19-of-28 shots from the field for 67.9 percent and took a commanding 46-24 lead at intermission.
Montana took a 26-point lead when Davis hit a short jump shot with 15:30 left to make it 59-33, Grizzlies. ISU (1-1 Big Sky/6-10) battled back, though, and cut the UM lead to 10 (74-64) with 6:08 to go in the game on a three-pointer by junior forward Doug D'Amore.
The Bengals were forced to foul in the closing three-plus minutes, and the Griz held off the Bengal rally by making 11-of-12 free throws in the final 3:12 of the contest.
ISU was led by senior guard Marquis Poole and senior forward Scott Henry, who each scored a game-high 24 points. D'Amore was ISU's other double-figure scorer with 13 points.
Poole had a dismal first half, but was 10-of-14 from the field and scored 22 points in the final 20 minutes. Poole also had 12 assists. Henry made 11-of-14 shots in the game and had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Griz sophomore guard Kevin Criswell had 19 points on 5-of-8 shooting and grabbed 7 rebounds. Senior forward Steve Horne added 11 points for UM, while senior guard Derrick Mansell tied a career-best with 11 points, had a career-high 7 rebounds, and also had 8 assists and 2 blocks. Davis made 6-of-8 shots and 11-of-11 free throws.
UM sophomore center John Seyfert contributed 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Sophomore forward Corey Easley had a season-high 9 points, along with a career-best 7 rebounds, and tied a career-high with 4 blocks.
ISU struggled from the free throw line, making just 6of-25 shots (24.0%). ISU rebounded from poor first-half of hooting though, making 22-of-39 for 56.4% in the final
stanza. The Bengals shot 44.6 percent (33-of-74) from the floor in the game.
Montana, which scored a season-high 91 points, made 29-of-53 shots for 54.7% from the floor. The Griz, which lead the Big Sky in free throw percentage, made 28-of-36 (77.8%)
charity shots.
The Griz had a substantial 51-30 rebounding advantage over the Bengals, but that lopsided stat was off-set by Montana's 21 turnovers, compared to ISU's 9.
Montana hosts preseason league favorite and defending Big Sky champion Weber State Saturday. WSU (0-2/7-8) suffered through 31 turnovers en route to a 61-48 Big Sky loss at
Montana State Thursday evening.
