Griz fall at home to Weber State

Senior forward Slobodan Ocokoljic had game-highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds as the visiting Weber State Wildcats defeated the host University of Montana Grizzlies 74-61 in a Big Sky Conference game Saturday evening in UM's Adams Center/Dahlberg Arena. A season-high 4,183 fans were in attendance.
The Grizzlies (2-2 Big Sky/5-11 overall) led early in the game, but the Wildcats (1-2/8-8) took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by junior guard Ryan Davis, giving WSU a 16-15 advantage with 10:15 left until intermission.
Even though the Grizzlies shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) in the opening half, the Wildcats took a 40-34 lead at the break.
Montana narrowed the Weber State lead to five points on two occasions, the final one coming with 5:52 to play, when Griz senior forward Steve Horne connected on a three-pointer. WSU held UM off the rest of the way by making 12-of-14 free throws in the final five-plus minutes of the contest.
Sophomore guard Kevin Criswell had a team-high 16 points for the Grizzlies, while Horne was UM's only other double-figure scorer with 13 points.
WSU had four players in double-figures, led by Ocokoljic, who made 3-of-3 field goal attempts and 12-of-12 free throws. Wildcat senior center Pat Danley scored 15 points off the bench, while senior forward Nic Sparrow tallied 11, and junior forward Lance Allred added 10.
The Wildcats out-rebounded the Grizzlies 32-21. WSU had 20 more free throw attempts, making 27-of-32 (84.4%), compared to UM's 9-of-12 (75.0%).
WSU made 21-of-41 shots (51.2%), while Montana was 24-of-52 for 46.2% from the floor. The Grizzlies made just 11-of-30 field goal tries (36.7%) in the second half. Each team had 12 turnovers.
Montana plays intrastate rival Montana State next Saturday, Jan. 24 in Bozeman. WSU hosts Northern Arizona and Sacramento State next week.
