Vikings win Big Sky title over Grizzlies in overtime

PORTLAND, Ore. - Sophomore midfielder Jamie Blakesley scored the game-winning goal in the first minute of overtime to lift the Portland State Vikings over The University of Montana women's soccer team, 3-2, on Sunday at PGE Park in Portland, Ore.
With the win the Vikings finished 8-7-3 overall, 4-1-1 in Big Sky play and won the Big Sky Conference regular season title. Montana finishes the regular season with a 7-7-2 overall mark and a 3-2-1 league record which secures them a place in next week's Big Sky Conference championship in Portland.
Portland State out-shot Montana 17-7 in the contest that was the regular-season finale for both teams. The Grizzlies recorded 19 fouls while the Vikings were whistled for only 10.
Portland State was led offensively by Blakesley and sophomore forward Sophia Mundy. Blakesley recorded two goals and had one assist while Mundy had one goal and two assists. Junior Niki Brooks had three saves in goal for the Vikings.
Sophomore forward Lindsay Winans spearheaded the Grizzly offense. Winans scored both of Montana's goals to move her season total to 10, the most of any Big Sky Conference player this season. Senior goalkeeper Jamie Rizzuto had six saves for the Grizzlies.
Portland State took the early lead in the 32nd minute on a goal by Mundy. Blakesley assisted the goal when she found Mundy who chipped a shot from 25 yards out to beat Rizzuto.
Montana tied the game at 1-1 in the 42nd minute on a goal by sophomore forward Lindsay Winans. Freshman midfielder Mahlleace Tomsin found Winans on an airborne pass off a corner kick for the equalizer.
PSU's Blakesley scored her goal in 71st minute which gave the Vikings a 2-1 advantage. Blakesley, this time on the receiving end of a Mundy pass, dribbled in behind the Grizzly defense and scored on a shot from 18-yards out on the right side.
Winans second goal came in the 87th minute when she redirected a free kick taken by sophomore defender Kelly Fullerton. The goal tied the match at 2-2 and forced the brief overtime where Blakesley scored her second goal of the match 40 seconds into the extra period.
Montana will play as either the two or three seed in the four team conference tournament. The Griz will face Eastern Washington in the semfinal round on Friday. League champion Portland State will face Weber State in the other semifinal.
