Lady Griz Conclude Big Sky Play Unbeaten

Montana wrapped up a perfect 14-0 Big Sky Conference schedule on Saturday night with a dominating 85-50 victory over Portland State before 5,305 fans at Dahlberg Arena. In a week of Lady Griz milestones, two more were reached against the Vikings with senior Brooklynn Lorenzen breaking the Montana and Big Sky single-season assist marks and coach Robin Selvig earning his 600th career victory.
The victory was the Lady Griz' 20th straight win at home and 15th straight win overall and improved Montana to 25-4 overall.
The Vikings ended their season 6-22, 3-11 in league play.
The Lady Griz wasted little time in determining the outcome of the game on Senior Night. Just over five minutes into the game Montana led 17-1 and was never challenged after that.
UM led 50-24 at the half after hitting 18 of 29 shots (62.1 percent) and limiting Portland State to 25.8 percent shooting.
One of the three Lady Griz seniors, Julie Deming scored a game-high 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting. She also added five assists and three steals.
Lorenzen now has 222 assists on the season, breaking Kelly Pilcher's Montana single-season record of 215 and Netra McGrew of Idaho's league record of 218. Lorenzen was perfect from the field against the Vikings, hitting all five shots from the field to score 14 points, while adding 11 assists, four rebounds and two steals.
The third senior, Jill Henkel, who hasn't been able to play this season because of injury, was also honored prior to the game.
Juniors Hollie Tyler, Crystal Baird and Juliann Keller all scored 11 points, with Tyler and Keller grabbing six rebounds each.
Sophomore Jody McLeod came off the bench to grab a team-high seven rebounds and score four points.
Montana shot 60.4 percent from the field for the game, a season-high, while limiting the Vikings to 30.5 percent shooting.
The Lady Griz held a 36-30 advantage on the boards.
Heather Arns led Portland State with 12 points.
Montana will be back in action this coming week when it hosts the Big Sky Conference tournament at Dahlberg Arena. The tournament runs Thursday through Saturday night.
