The University of Montana women's soccer team begins its spring soccer season with a scrimmage against former Grizzly players Friday night at 6:30 at South Campus Stadium.
Friday's scrimmage will be the first time that new head coach Neil Sedgwick, who was hired in January, will see the Grizzlies in game action. Wendy Stuker, last year's Big Sky Conference defensive player of the year and Lindsay Winans, the team's leading scorer, are among those returning this year from a team that finished second at the 2003 Big Sky Conference Tournament.
Several former All-Big Sky Conference performers and award winners will fill out the Alumni roster. Karen Hardy, who was the 1998 Big Sky Conference offensive MVP and ranks second all-time in UM history with 34 career goals, is slated to play, along with Shannon Forslund, who was an assistant coach at UM last season and was a four-time First-Team All-Big Sky Conference performer. Other notables include McKenzie Zajonc (2001 Big Sky Conference defensive MVP), Jodi Cambell (2000 Big Sky Conference offensive MVP) and former head coach Betsy Duerksen, who was a four-time All-America soccer player at Boston College and was voted the Boston College female athlete of the 1980's.
