Towson names Kennedy as basketball coach

Pat Kennedy was introduced today as Towson's new men's basketball coach, promising to rebuild the downtrodden Tigers program with a realistic timetable.
"It will be built better if it's built correctly and built slowly," Kennedy, 52, said during a morning news conference at Unitas Stadium. "In college basketball, you need those players who can fill that hole, like you need a great quarterback or a great linebacker. We've got to be very selective but yet be efficient."
Kennedy comes to Baltimore from the University of Montana, where he spent the past two seasons after longer stints at Iona, Florida State and DePaul. Terms of his contract were not announced, but athletic director Wayne Edwards called Kennedy's deal multiyear.
"It's long enough for him to get the job done," said Edwards.
Kennedy replaces Michael Hunt, who resigned last month after compiling a 23-63 record in three seasons. Kennedy beat out two former Division I head coaches who are now associate head coaches at ACC schools, Larry Hunter of North Carolina State and Ron Bradley of Clemson.
