The University of Montana women's basketball team was selected by the Big Sky Conference coaches to win its third straight league title the conference office announced Tuesday. The Lady Griz, who have gone 27-1 in BSC play the last two seasons, earned five first-place votes and 47 points. Northern Arizona was a close second in the coaches poll, picking up three first-place votes and 45 points.
In the media poll, Montana and Northern Arizona tied atop the poll, each receiving five first-place votes and 100 points.
The Lady Griz and Lumberjacks accounted for all the first-place votes in the coaches poll, while Weber State, Eastern Washington and Idaho State all picked up first-place votes in the media poll.
"The polls, as I always say, obviously don't mean anything," Montana coach Robin Selvig said Tuesday, "but I do think Northern Arizona merited a good look. They had a really good team last year and only graduated one kid, so I usually go by what people lost from the year before and they probably return the most quality players off a proven team.
"It's nice that we got a little pump there. We obviously have a lot of questions with the kids we graduated, but I'd like to think we're going to be in the hunt before all is said and done."
Montana went 22-8 in 2004-05, 13-1 in league play. The Lady Griz' only loss in Big Sky play came at home to Northern Arizona.
