Lady Griz down Gonzaga, 88-78

The University of Montana women's basketball team remained unbeaten as they improved to 2-0 after defeating Gonzaga University (3-1), 88-78, Sunday, Nov. 19.
Lady Griz junior forward Johanna Closson led both teams with a career-high 25 points, including 14 in the second half. The Whitefish, Mont., native shot 9-16 from the floor (.563), including 5-6 from behind the arc (.833).
Sophomore center Tamara Guardipee recorded a double-double for the Grizzlies, as she scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Freshman forward Heather Bowman led the Bulldogs with 23 points. Two other Bulldogs also scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Jamie Bjorklund scored 15 points and senior guard Katy Ridenour added 13.
The first half featured four lead changes and three ties. Montana held the biggest lead at seven points, but Gonzaga entered the half on top, 43-38.
The Lady Griz scored the first five points in the second half to tie the game at 43. Bowman made a free throw to give GU its final lead of the game at the 18:12 mark.
Montana would hold onto a single digit lead for most of the second half.
With less than two minutes remaining, Closson made back to back 3-pointers in 45 seconds to extend the Grizzly lead to 85-74.
Sophomore guard Sonya Rogers also had a career game, as the Lewistown, Mont., native scored 16 points, as she made 4-5 from the 3-point arc. She also recorded three assists and three steals.
Sophomore guard Mandy Morales also scored ten points, all in the second half, shooting 6-7 from the charity stripe. The Billings, Mont., native also dished out nine assists.
Sophomore forward Brittany Lohman tied her career-high with 10 points and also added two blocks.
