Morales honored by Big Sky Conference

University of Montana sophomore Mandy Morales was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week the league office announced Monday. Morales, who was honored for the second time in her career, was recognized for her play in the Lady Griz' victories last week over Wyoming and Portland.
Morales averaged 28.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game as Montana defeated the Cowgirls, 70-59, and the Pilots, 74-54.
The sophomore guard shot 50.0 percent from the field, 58.3 percent from 3-point range and went 17-for-17 (1.000) from the line.
Morales had 27 points against Wyoming and 29 against Portland, all scored with remarkable consistency. She had scoring halves of 15 points, 12 points, 15 points and 14 points.
"Mandy had a real good weekend," Montana coach Robin Selvig, who picked up his 650th career victory Saturday night against the Pilots, said. "She shot the ball well, particularly from three, and just played a good overall game.
"(And though she scored a lot of points) I thought the rest of the team played well. We had kids other than Mandy that scored."
The Lady Griz (5-1) host Utah State Monday night before closing out their pre-Christmas schedule with road games at Washington State (Friday, Dec. 8), Idaho (Saturday, Dec. 9), Cal State Northridge (Sunday, Dec. 17) and Santa Clara (Wednesday, Dec. 20).
