Griz fall to Hilltoppers, 81-65

The University of Montana men??s basketball team lost, 81-65, in non-conference action against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Wednesday night at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula, Mont. The loss dropped the Grizzlies to 3-5 overall while the Hilltoppers improved to 8-1 on the season.
Junior forward Andrew Strait recorded a double-double with a game-high 25 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and an assist. Strait made 11-of-15 field goal attempts in 38 minutes of action.
Freshmen guard Cameron Rundles had a career-high 13 points, three assists and a career-high three rebounds coming off the bench for the Grizzlies. Senior guard Bryan Ellis had a game-high five assists and seven points in the loss.
Montana shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field in the game. The Grizzlies were 14-of-29 from the field (48.3 percent), 4-of-10 from three-point range (40 percent) in the first half. During the second half, the Grizzlies fell to 33.3 percent (9-of-27) from the field, including 3-of-13 three-pointers (23.1 percent).
Western Kentucky made 29-of-55 field goals (52.7 percent) and 4-of-10 three-pointers (40 percent).
The Hilltoppers were led by junior forward Courtney Lee who also recorded a double-double, matching Strait??s game-high with 25 points, while adding a game-best 12 rebounds while shooting 11-of-20 from the field. Junior guard Tyrone Brazelton chipped in with 11 points, three assists and three rebounds.
The Grizzlies stormed to an early 20-9 lead with 12:00 remaining in the first half. The Hilltoppers then went on a 21-12 run to cut the Montana lead to 32-30 with 2:17 remaining in the half. Montana retained the slim lead in the final minutes but a Western Kentucky lay-up in the final second would tie the game 37-37 at the half.
The Hilltoppers shot 55.6 percent in the second half while the Grizzlies struggled shooting 33.3 percent. Both teams battled back-and-forth to start the second half. With 10:40 remaining in the game the score was tied at 53-53, then the Hilltoppers wouldn??t look back. Western Kentucky held the lead the final ten minutes of the game, going on a 28-12 run to end the game with the final score of 81-65 Hilltoppers.
Montana (3-5) returns to action Dec. 9 at Dahlberg Arena to face the UC-Riverside. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m (MST).
