Lady Griz head to break on five-game win streak

The University of Montana women's basketball team won its fifth straight game Wednesday night with a 70-37 victory over Montana-Western at Dahlberg Arena. The Lady Griz enter their short Christmas break with a record of 8-3.
Montana-Western was using the game as an exhibition and remained at 10-2 on the season.
Junior Britney Lohman led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. Lohman entered the game shooting 31.8 percent from the field for the year but broke out with a 6-for-7 performance against the Bulldogs to raise her season shooting percentage to 37.0 percent.
Junior Sonya Rogers kept her season-long hot hand, hitting 6-of-12 from the field to score 14 points. She also grabbed a career-high six rebounds.
No other Montana players reached double figures, but eight other players scored in the game.
Junior Tamara Guardipee and freshman Sarah Ena both scored six points and combined for 11 rebounds.
The Lady Griz shot 48.1 percent in the first half to jump out to a 42-22 halftime lead. They ended up shooting 43.9 percent for the game and had a 45-36 rebounding advantage.
Laura Shea had 11 points and nine rebounds for Montana-Western, both team highs. Heather Brooks had 10 points and added five rebounds.
Montana limited the Bulldogs to 25.9 percent shooting overall, 13.0 percent (3-for-23) from 3-point range.
Over their last eight games, of which they've won seven, the Lady Griz have shot 44.2 percent while limiting their opponents to 32.0 percent shooting.
After the Christmas break, Montana will host the 28th Lady Griz Holiday Classic Friday through Sunday, Dec. 28-30.
