Montana concludes non-league slate with Tech

The University of Montana Grizzly men??s basketball team (5-7) concludes its non-conference schedule, hosting the Montana Tech Orediggers (4-10) in UM??s Dahlberg Arena (7,321) on Sunday, Dec. 30, with tip-off at 2:05 p.m. (Mountain).
A REVIEW OF RECENT GAMES - at CAL STATE FULLERTON 79, MONTANA 76 (OT): The Titans (6-2) out-scored the Grizzlies 17 to 14 in overtime to sweep UM this season, as Fullerton defeated Montana 100-91 in Missoula on Nov. 30th. With the game tied 62-62 in regulation, UM senior forward Andrew Strait missed a lay-up with one second left to force the OT. Junior forward Jordan Hasquet scored a game-high 23 points, while Strait had 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, and junior guard Ceylon Elgin-Taylor added a career-high 14 points.
at SANTA CLARA 60, MONTANA 49: Junior center John Bryant scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the host Broncos. Montana overcame a 17-point (42-25) second-half deficit and trimmed Santa Clara??s lead to 55-47 with 3:44 remaining on a lay-up by Strait, but the Broncos maintained their lead for the victory. Strait scored a team and game-high 15 points.
at PACIFIC 76, MONTANA 71, OT: Pacific junior forward Anthony Brown scored a lay-up with 3:20 to go in overtime to give his team a 66-64 lead, and the Tigers led the rest of the way en route to the victory. UM had taken a 63-61 lead with 46 seconds left in regulation on a three-point shot by sophomore guard Ryan Staudacher. The game was tied 14 times and there were 11 lead changes. Hasquet led all scorers with 28 points, and he had 16 of those points in the second half, while Strait added 12 points.
STRAIT 6TH ON CAREER SCORING LIST: Strait (Yakima, Wash.) remains sixth on UM??s career scoring list with 1,351 points. He needs 150 to pass former center-forward and current Griz head coach Wayne Tinkle, who scored 1,500 points from 1985-89.
GRIZ NEXT GAME: Montana opens its 2008 Big Sky Conference slate with the 277th meeting against intrastate rival Montana State, Saturday, Jan. 5, in Bozeman, with tip-off at 7:05 p.m.
