NAU rolls past Bobcats and into semifinals

Northern Arizona shot 49.1 percent and held Montana State to 30.9 percent shooting in a 76-53 victory Thursday night in a quarterfinal game of the 2007 Chinook Wireless Big Sky Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at Dahlberg Arena. The Lumberjacks, the tournament's No. 4 seed, advance to play No. 1 seed Montana Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
NAU improved to 19-11 with the win, while the Bobcats end their season at 13-16.
Montana swept the regular-season series with Northern Arizona, winning 78-64 in the meeting at Missoula on Jan. 25, and 61-50 at Flagstaff, Ariz., on Feb. 22.
Montana State came charging out of the gates, hitting four of its first six shots to jump out to a quick five-point lead, 11-6, but the Lumberjacks scored the game's next 15 points to go up 21-11, and Northern Arizona would not trail again in the game.
The NAU lead was 33-23 at the half.
The Bobcats scored the opening basket of the second half to cut the lead to eight, 33-25, but Northern Arizona answered with an 18-5 run to go up 51-30 and steadily pulled away from there.
Alyssa Wahl had 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and added nine rebounds to lead the Lumberjacks, who finished with a 44-31 rebounding advantage. Kim Winkfield added 13 points, Megan Porter had 10 and Laura Dinkins and Natalie Metz both finished with nine points.
Nubia Garcia was MSU's lone double-figure scorer with 13.
