Grizzlies to host 2007 Montana Nike Cup

MISSOULA, Mont. - The University of Montana soccer team (1-5) will host the 2007 Montana Nike Cup this week, with Boise State, Detroit and Oregon State joining the Grizzlies in the weekend competition. All matches will be played at South Campus Stadium in Missoula.
Play begins Friday at 2 p.m. (MTN) with a neutral-site contest between Oregon State (5-1) and Boise State (3-3). Thursday??s other matchup will pit Montana (1-5) against Detroit (0-5) at 5 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first match. The two-day event wraps up Sunday with a noon matchup between Oregon State and Detroit, followed by a 2:30 p.m. Montana-Boise State contest.
Nike Cup quick facts
It is the third time in four years that head coach Neil Sedgwick and the Griz have hosted the tournament, boasting a 3-1 record in those matches. Montana has a 2-3-0 all-time record against Sunday??s opponent Boise State, losing 2-1 at BSU last year in the most recent matchup. Friday??s meeting with Detroit will be the first-ever clash between the two soccer programs.

Minnesota 4, Montana 0: Four different players scored second-half goals to lead Minnesota past Montana, 4-0, last Sunday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. Eight different Grizzlies recorded shots in the loss, which was their second consecutive.
Iowa State 1, Montana 0: Iowa State forward Leslie Hill scored in the 62nd minute to lead the Cyclones past the Grizzlies, 1-0, last Friday in a neutral-site match at the Minnesota tournament. Montana out-shot Iowa State, 12-10, while recording 11 fouls to the Cyclones?? 10.

Montana returns to the road to face matches against Utah State and BYU. The Grizzlies take on the Aggies on Friday, Sept. 27, with opening kick slated for 4 p.m. (MTN). UM faces the Cougars at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29.
