Grizzlies drop road game to Northern Arizona, 72-64

FLAGSTAFF, AZ - Northern Arizona senior forward Kyle Landry scored 27 points to lead the host Lumberjacks to a 72-64 Big Sky Conference victory over The University of Montana Grizzlies Thursday night in front of 1,268 fans in NAU's Walk-up Skydome.
NAU improved to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in league, while Montana is now 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference and has lost seven of its last eight games.
Montana took a 40-28 lead in the second half with 18:15 to go on a jump shot by senior forward Andrew Strait. The Grizzlies maintained that lead mid-way through the final half, but a steal and lay-up by junior guard Matt Johnson knotted the game up at 48-48 with 10:33 remaining.
The team exchanged leads four times after Johnson's score, and when junior guard Josh Wilson made a pair of free throws after a foul by UM junior guard Ceylon Elgin-Taylor, they took a 54-53 lead with 7:35 remaining.
The Grizzlies tied the contest up for the last time with 6:34 to go on a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Cameron Rundles when hewas fouled by Landry.
The Jacks took the lead for good with 5:26 to go in the game when Landry hit a jump shot to give his team a 57-55 edge. NAU then out-scored UM 11-4 over the next five minutes and took a 68-59 lead when senior forward Ryan McCurdy made one-of-two free throws.
Strait made the first shot of the game to give the Grizzlies an early 2-0 advantage, and Montana led the entire first half, taking a 35-26 advantage at halftime.
Senior guard Matt Martin led Montana with 15 points off the bench, making 5-of-10 shots. Sophomore guard Ryan Staudacher added 14 points, while Strait scored 12, and junior forward Jordan Hasquet added 10 points. Hasquet had a team-high 9 rebounds, while Strait grabbed 8.
Landry scored 17 of his 27 points in the second half and had a game-high 11 rebounds. Wilson, who did not start, was NAU's other double-figure scorer with 19 points.
The Grizzlies are at Sac State next Saturday, Jan. 12, while NAU hosts Montana State.
