Grizzlies beat Delta Devils 82-65

Senior forward Jordan Hasquet scored a game-high 23 points to pace The University of Montana Grizzlies to an 82-65 victory over the Mississippi Valley State Thursday evening in basketball action in UM???s Dahlberg Arena.
Montana took control of the game early, jumping to an 18-point first-half lead, when freshman center-forward Derek Selvig scored on a lay-up to give the Grizzlies a 26-8 lead with 10:37 left until halftime.
It was more of the same in the second half, as Montana (2-1) maintained at least a 16-point advantage through the final 20 minutes. The Grizzlies biggest lead was 23 points, when they went up 55-32 on a three-pointer by junior guard Ryan Staudacher with 18 minutes left in the contest.
Hasquet scored 14 points in the first half to lead the Grizzlies to a 47-30 advantage at halftime. Staudacher added 14 points and made 4-of-5 three-point shots, while junior forward Jack McGillis was also in double figures with 12 points. Ten of the 11 Griz players who suited up scored.
Hasquet led UM with 7 rebounds, while McGillis pulled down 6 boards and dished out 7 assists. Senior guard Ceylon Elgin-Taylor had 8 points and 7 assists.
The Blue Devils (0-5) were led senior forward Eric Petty and junior guard/forward Shannon Behling, who scored 18 points each, while senior guard Dwayne Harmason added 17 points and freshman guard Tashan Newsome chipped in 10. Petty had a game-high 13 rebounds and was 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
Montana shot 54.% from the field (27-of-50), made 9-of-18 treys, and was 19-of-29 (65.5%) from the line. MVS made 20-of-53 field goals (37.7%), 6-of-17 threes (35.3%), and was 19-of-25 from the charity stripe. The teams each had 32 rebounds.
The Grizzlies play national power and 10th ranked (AP) Duke in Durham, N.C. this Sunday, Nov. 23,??at 1:00 p.m. (Mountain).
