Griz at PSU in key Big Sky contest Saturday

The No. 5 University of Montana Grizzlies (8-1, 4-1 BSC) play their final regular-season road game this week, playing the Portland State Vikings (3-5, 2-3 BSC) in a Big Sky Conference contest, Saturday, Nov. 8th.

Kickoff: The game is at PG&E Park (19,566, Field Turf) in Portland and starts at 2:05 p.m. (MT).

Montana 45, Northern Arizona 10: Halfback Chase Reynolds rushed for a career-high 157 yards and three touchowns and quarterback Cole Bergquist passed for three scores in the Grizzlies??? victory over the 19th-ranked Lumberjacks.

Offensive stars: Reynolds rushed 12 times for a career high of 157 yards and three touchdowns. ... Bergquist was 14-of-23 for 186 yards and three scores. ... Mike Ferriter was on the receiving end of two of Bergquist???s scoring passes (nine and five yards) and he had a team-high four grabs for 56 yards. ... Marc Mariani scored on an 11-yard pass from Bergquist and had three receptions for 60 yards.

Ground game stellar: Montana rushed for a season-high 223 yards against an NAU team that entered the game ranked first in the FCS in rush defense, allowing just 150 total net rush yards in its first eight games this season.

Tough D again: The Griz defense held NAU to 264 total yards, 151 rushing and 113 passing. Montana???s defense has allowed just four touchdowns in its last four games.

UM safety Colt Anderson had two picks and seven tackles, while linebacker Tyler Corwin had a team-best eight stops and end Mike Stadnyk added seven tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Coaching milestone: The NAU victory was six-year Griz head coach Bobby Hauck???s 60th of his career.

23 in a row: Montana???s victory at Northern Colorado on Oct. 25 guaranteed the Grizzlies their 23rd winning season in a row.

Winning ways: Montana has won 29 of its past 30 regular-season games. Montana set a Big Sky record earlier this season with 25 straight regular-season victories until a 45-28 loss at 13th-ranked Weber State Oct. 4th.

PSU last week: The Vikings lost 31-21 at No. 9 Weber State.

Radio: The game will be aired on the Grizzlies??? two flagship stations, KXGZ-FM (101.5) and KGVO-AM (1290) of Missoula, with veteran Mick Holien calling the play-by-play for his 16th season and former Griz wide receiver Scott Gurnsey providing color commentary.

Television: The Griz-Vikings game will be aired on KPAX-TV and its MTN affilates in the state of Montana. KPAX sports director Phil Buck calls the play-by-play and station general manager Bob Hermes provides in-booth color commentary, while Griz SID Dave Guffey will be on the sidelines.

Next week: Montana plays its final two league games at home, starting with Idaho State on Nov. 15th, while PSU is at Montana State.
