Montana hosts Montana State on Saturday

THE GAME: The University of Montana Grizzly men???s hoop team (6-7/0-1 Big Sky) will play its first home game in 28 days, hosting its intrastate rival, the Montana State Bobcats (7-5/0-1), on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, in UM???s Dalberg Arena (7,310) with tip-off at 7:05 p.m. (Mountain time).

THE SERIES: The Bobcats lead 144-132. First meeting: 1904-05: MSU 39, @UM 32 and @MSU 53, UM 10. Last year: @MSU 74, UM 58 and @UM 88, MSU 76.

GRIZ ON THE RADIO: Veteran Mick Holien calls the action on KXGZ-FM (101.5), while Greg Sundberg provides color commentary.

TV: The game will be aired on CW-TV stations (channel 18/Missoula) in Montana. KPAXTV???s Phil Buck calls the play-by-play, while Amanda Maynard of KCTZ-TV does color.

UP NEXT?: Montana hosts Northern Arizona and Sacramento State next week on Thursday and Saturday, with tip-off at 7:05 in both contests.

CAPSULE OF MONTANA???S LAST GAME:
HUSKIES 75, GRIZ 53: Forwards Jon Brockman and Matt Bryan-Amaning combined for 26
points and 26 rebounds, to lead Washington to the win on Dec. 28th. With the game tied 10-10 after the first five minutes of play, the Huskies (8-3) out-scored the Grizzlies 21-2 over the next eight-plus minutes, jumping to a 31-12 lead with 6:32 left until intermission. Washington led 41-21 at halftime.

UM???s Ryan Staudacher and fellow junior guard Anthony Johnson were Montana???s only
double-digit scorers with 11 points each. Montana???s other three starters, forward Jack McGillis (8 points) and Jordan Hasquet (6 points), and center Brian Qvale (one point), combined for 15 points. Griz senior forward Kyle Sharp had a team-high 7 rebounds off the bench, along with 6 points.

Brockman had 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Bryan-Amaning, a 6-9, 235-pound sophomore from London, England, who did not start, had 10 points and 15 rebounds.
