Wildcats defeat Grizzlies 71-55

The Weber State Wildcats had three players score in double figures en route to a 71-55 win over the visiting University of Montana Grizzlies Saturday evening in a Big Sky Conference game in WSU???s Dee Events Center (attendance: 5,022).
Montana (3-3/9-9) jumped to an early 9-2 lead on a pair of free throws byu junior guard Anthony Johnson with 15:08 left until intermission. However, WSU (4-1/10-8) battled back, and took a 12-11 lead on a pair of free throws by senior forward Daviin Davis with 10:39 left until halftime, and the Wildcats led the rest of the way. Weber State had a 32-23 lead at the half. The Wildcats took a double-digit lead (34-23) in the opening seconds of the second half on a couple of free throws by freshman forward Kyle Bullinger, and WSU maintained a lead of 10 points or more throughout the rest of the contest. Johnson continued his torrid scoring pace with a game-high 21 points. UM junior forward Jack McGillis added 16 points, while senior forward Jordan Hasquet struggled from the field with just 5 points, but he did have a team-high 8 rebounds. Johnson is now averaging 22.8 points per game in conference. Davis and senior guard Kellen McCoy scored 18 points each for the Wildcats, while freshman guard Damian Lillard added 17. The Grizzlies made just 17-of-54 field goal attempts (31.5%) and were 6-of-22 (27.3%) from three-point range. The Wildcats were 20-of-51 (39.2%) from the field and made 7-of-16 (43.8%) treys. WSU was 24-of-30 from the line for 80.0%, while UM made 15-of-21 (71.4%) charity attempts. The Wildcats had a 41 to 34 advantage on the boards. Montana is at Eastern Washington next Wednesday, Jan. 21 and hosts Northern Colorado on Sunday, Jan. 25. WSU is at Sacramento State and Northern Arizona next week. ??
