Montana hosts league co-leader PSU

THE GAME: The University of Montana Grizzlies (5-3/11-9) begin the second half of their Big Sky Conference season by hosting the league???s co-leader, the Portland State Vikings (6-1/15-5), Thursday, Jan. 29th, with tip-off slated at 7:05 p.m. (Mountain Time) in UM???s Dahlberg Arena (7,321).
RADIO/TV: Veteran Mick Holien calls the play-by-play action and Greg Sundberg provides color commentary on UM???s flagship station, KXGZ-FM (101.5) of Missoula. There is no TV coverage, but the game may be watched for free on bigskytv.org.
NEXT?: Montana hosts Eastern Washington on Saturday, Jan. 31st in a 7:05 p.m. game.
CAPSULES OF MONTANA???S LAST TWO GAMES:
AT MONTANA 68, NORTHERN COLORADO 59: Anthony Johnson and Jordan Hasquet combined for 31 points to lead the Grizzlies. The Griz jumped to a early 5-2 lead on a three-pointer by Ryan Staudacher and led the rest of the way. UM had a 21-point lead (65-44) with 3:15 left to play, but UNC closed the gap to seven points when Chris Kaba made a three-pointer with 25 seconds to go, making the score 66-59. Johnson had a game-high 18 points, while Hasquet had 13. UM???s Jack McGillis grabbed a game and career-high 8 rebounds, while Hasquet and Kyle Sharp pulled down 7 boards each. UNC was led by forward Jabril Banks with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Kaba with 14 points.
MONTANA 63, at EASTERN WASHINGTON 50: Johnson had a game-high 21 points. Staudacher???s three-pointer at the 13:32 mark in the first half gave Montana a 10-9 lead), which it never relinquished. Griz sophomore center Brian Qvale scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 9 rebounds. EWU was led by guard Benny Valentine with 15 points, and forward Mark Dunn added 14.
HASQUET MOVES UP ON CAREER SCORING LIST: With his 13 points against UNC, Hasquet now has 1,295 career points, moving him up to eighth all-time at Montana. He passed Derrick Pope (1,289 points, 1980-83) and Shawn Samuelson (1,293 points, 1993-96).

FIRST MEETING (Dec. 20): at Portland State 72, Montana 45: Johnson led the Griz with 15 points going 7-of-10 from the field, but the the rest of the team shot just 25% (9-of-36), and Montana lost its Big Sky opener. It took Montana nearly four minutes to score their first points as PSU took a 10-0 lead. PSU extended its Big Sky winning streak to 15 games.
