Montana coach Bobby Hauck was named AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year, the American Football Coaches Association announced Wednesday.
The AFCA recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners in each of the Association???s five divisions: Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The winners are selected by Active members of the Association who vote for coaches in their respective regions and divisions.
Bobby Hauck is the winningest coach in Big Sky Conference history in terms of victories per season (11+) and conference championships (seven).
He has been named the AFCA???s Region 5 Coach of the Year three times: 2006, 2007, and 2009, and he was also named the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year those three seasons.
Hauck (Montana, 1988), 44, is now ranked third (tie) in Big Sky history with his 78 career victories.?? Those 78 wins are the second most in school history and the third most in conference games.?? Former UM mentor Don Read is ranked second in the Big Sky and won a school-record 85 games during his 10-year tenure at Montana (1986-1995).?????????? ??
Hauck???s Griz teams have won seven straight league titles, and participated in the FCS playoffs seven years in a row, and he is the only mentor at?? Montana to accomplish that.?? His seven league titles are twice as many as any other Grizzly football coach.
UM???s 78 wins the past seven seasons are the most by any FCS team. ??
Over the past six seasons the Grizzlies have had 20 players named to FCS All-American teams.
Bobby is married to the former Stacey Harbin from St. Ignatius, Mont., and the couple have twin daughters, Sydney and Alexandra, 13, a son, Robby, 11, and a daughter Elise, 2.?? Bobby?? is an avid fly-fisherman and skier.
He is 9-6 in the FCS playoffs. with championship appearances in 2004 and 2008, and a semifinal appearance in 2006.
