Grizzlies to host Eagles, Vikings

THE GAMES: The University of Montana Grizzlies (10-6/1-3 Big Sky) continue their Big Sky Conference schedule, hosting the Eastern Washington Eagles (5-10/1-1), Friday, Jan. 8, and the Portland State Vikings (7-7/2-0) on Saturday, Jan. 9. Tip-off for both games in UM???s Dahlberg Arena (7,321) is at 7:05 p.m.

At Weber State 64, Montana 56: Sophomore guard Damian Lillard scored 30 points to lead the Wildcats. The Grizzlies tied the score for the fourth and final time in the game at 54-54 on a pair of free throws by junior center Brian Qvale with 2:53 left. But after Qvale???s two makes, Lillard nailed a three-pointer, and then he scored again on a driving lay-up about a minute later, giving the Wildcats a 59-54 lead with 42 seconds left. UM freshman guard Will Cherry scored a career-high 17 points, while Qvale added 14. UM senior forward Jack McGillis had a career and game-high 11 rebounds.
At Idaho State 67, Montana 65: Idaho State senior guard Austin Kilpatrick made a 17-foot jump shot at the buzzer to give the Bengals the victory. Montana tied it up at 65-65 with 28 seconds to go when Cherry scored on a lay-up and a free throw. ISU???s second game-winning field goal attempt by Demetrius Monroe was blocked by Qvale, but the blocked ball bounced into the back-court to Kilpatrick who scooped it up and fired up his game-winner. Griz senior guard Anthony Johnson led UM with 15 points, while McGillis and senior guard Ryan Staudacher had 12 points apiece, and Cherry added 10.
RADIO/TV: UM???s flagship station is KVWE Radio (101.5 FM) with Mick Holien, the ???Voice of the Grizzlies,??? calling the play-by-play and Greg Sundberg providing color commentary. There is no TV coverage of either game.
