Montana Hosts Sac State in Altitude TV Game at 4:05 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20th
THE GAME: The University of Montana Grizzlies (18-8/9-5 Big Sky) host the Sacramento State Hornets (9-17/3-9), on Altitude TV, Saturday, Feb. 20th. Tip-off in UM???s Adams Center/Dahlberg Arena (7,321) is at 4:05 p.m. (Mountain).
GRIZ RECENT GAMES:
At Eastern Washington 69, Montana 68: EWU made 12-of-19 three-pointers, and Glen Dean made a free throw with 2.5 seconds left to give the host Eagles the win. There were 16 lead changes and eight ties, and the final tie came with 24 seconds left to play, when UM???s Michael Taylor nailed a three-pointer, making it 68-68. After Taylor???s game-tying trey, EWU???s Dean missed a jump shot, but Griz guard Anthony Johnson was called for a foul on the miss, and Dean made the first of two free throw attempts and scored what proved to be the game-winning point. Johnson, who played 39 minutes and fouled out for the first time in his career, scored a game-high 28 points. It was Johnson???s 14th game this season of scoring 20 or more points and the 26th of his career. Taylor was UM???s only other double-figure scorer with 11 points. Dean led EWU with 23 points, while fellow freshman guard Jeffrey Forbes scored 18.
Montana 81, at Portland State 76: Johnson scored a team-high 22 points as the Grizzlies won to their fifth in a row and eighth of their last nine games. UM led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but PSU cut the lead to three (70-67) with 4:08 left on a three-pointer, but UM made 7-of-10 free throws for the win. Ryan Staudacher tied his season high with 18 points, while fellow guard Will Cherry added 13, and Brian Qvale had 11.
STAUDACHER ON 3-POINT LISTS: Staudacher now has made 196 career treys, which ties him with David Bell for third on UM???s all-time list and 11th (tie) in league history.
QVALE ON CAREER BLOCKS LISTS: Qvale remains third in Montana history and moved up to ninth in Big Sky annals with 138 career blocked shots.
???TINKS??? WINS 18TH OF SEASON: Montana???s 18th win of the season, 81-76 at Portland State on Feb. 12th established a season-high for fourth-year Griz Head Coach Wayne Tinkle.
