The University of Montana men's head basketball coach Wayne Tinkle is one of 16 college basketball coaches from across the country nominated for collegeinsider.com's Skip Prosser Award.
"It's an outstanding group of sixteen finalists," said Mark Prosser, son of the late Skip Prosser. "Each coach has done a first class job with his program and each would be a fine recipient of the award."
The Skip Prosser Award was established in 2008 to honor those who not only achieve success on the basketball court but who display moral integrity off of it as well. Prosser posted a career record of 291-146 in 14 seasons as a head coach. During his time at Wake Forest, his teams averaged 21 wins per season while playing in arguably the nation's most difficult league, the Atlantic Coast Conference.
"It is a great honor to be listed among these 16 coaches," Tinkle said. "These are all great men and I think it is really an indication of the success our staff and players have had here both on and off the court."
Tinkle has posted a 91-64 (.587) record in his five years at the helm in Montana and has led the Grizzlies to two post season berths (2010 NCAA, 2011 CBI).
Former Grizzly Coach Blaine Taylor, now with Old Dominion, is also among the 16 coaches on the list.
"Seeing Blaine on the list speaks to me of our great coaching tradition," Tinkle said. "There are a lot of great coaches that have walked through these halls and I am humbled to be the latest to sit at the end of the Grizzly bench."
The winner will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet on April 1 in Houston, site of the men's basketball championship.
