Cherry named to Mid-Major Defensive All-America Team

BOSTON, Mass. (4/10/12) - The University of Montana's Will Cherry has added another award to his resume, as he is one of 20 players named to the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Defensive All-America team, the organization announced today.
Cherry was recently one of 25 players named to the 2012 Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America team, and he was also selected to the 10-player All-District VIII basketball team by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
Cherry, a 6-foot-1 junior guard from West Oakland, Calif., was named the Big Sky Conference's "Defensive Player of the Year," and was a unanimous first team all-league pick. This past season he averaged 15.8 points, which ranked him fourth in the league. He also averaged a conference-high 2.6 steals per game, which ranked him sixth in the nation.
Cherry has a school-record 223 career steals, which ranks him fifth on the Big Sky's all-time list. He has 1,191 career points, which ranks him 14th in school history.
Rather selecting a first, second, third team and honorable mentions; the Mid-Major Defensive All-America squad is just one team. Cherry was the only player from the Big Sky named to the defensive All-America team.
