Montana native Kyla Clancy will join the University of Montana golf team next fall announced coach Emily Milberger. Clancy, a senior at Billings Central Catholic High School, signed a National Letter of Intent and is the second signee that Milberger has brought to the team.
Clancy, from Park City, Mont., brings a strong record of success to the Grizzlies with a Class A state championship and two runner-up finishes under her belt. Clancy has spent four years playing in the No. 1 position for her high school team leading the Rams to two state titles.
Clancy finished second individually in 2009, won the state tournament her junior year in 2010 and finished second in 2011. She was an all-state selection for all four years of high school competition.
"Kyla is obviously a strong player," said Milberger. "I really think her biggest asset is her desire and passion for winning.
"Kyla is really motivated to win, and that is exciting."
In addition to her high school accolades, Clancy won the Big I State Championship in 2010 and 2011 qualifying her for the Trusted Choice Big "I" National Championship which is one of the most prestigious junior's tournaments in the country.
Clancy's honors don't stop there; in 2010 she won the Laurel Golf Club Junior Club Championship and was the Montana State Junior Champion. Clancy has also participated in the Girls' Junior America's Cup from 2009-11 and was a three-time Academic All-State team.
"There is no place like Montana," exclaimed Clancy. "I have been playing golf since I was 10-years-old and to be able to play here is a dream come true.
"It feels great to be a Griz!"
Clancy will join Haley Bingham as the Grizzlies' incoming class this fall and Milberger hopes both will make an immediate impact. Montana graduated two seniors in 2011-12 in Ashli Helstrom and Lauren Howell. The 2012-13 season will mark Milberger's second year as head coach.
