The Montana golf team shot a final-round 317 Tuesday to finish 11th at the BYU at Entrada Classic at the Snow Canyon Country Club in St. George, Utah. The Grizzlies entered the final round in 10th place.
Sophomore Tara Green and senior Olivia Weber both shot 78s Tuesday. Green (77-76-78--231) finished the two-day, three-round tournament tied for 19th at 15 over. Weber (77-77-78--232) tied for 23rd at 16 over.
For both players it was the first time since the fall season that they posted three scores in the 70s at a three-round tournament.
"It's really exciting to see both Tara and Olivia with top-25 finishes," UM coach Emily Milberger said. "They both left some opportunities out there, but I think they are feeling good about their games."
Freshman Phoebe Tan (82-75-79--236) shot a 79, her third time in the 70s in her last four rounds, to give Montana three golfers in the 70s for the second straight round. Junior Lindsay Reeve (89-81-82--252) and freshman Hayley Bingham (86-81-82--249) both carded 82s over the final round.
Tan, who shot rounds of 75 and 79 after opening with an 82 Monday morning, tied for 40th. Bingham tied for 68th, and Reeve tied for 72nd in the 84-player field.
"I'm really happy for Phoebe," Milberger said. "That type of improvement is exciting to see from a freshman."
Montana (322-309-317) started Tuesday on holes 9, 10, 11 and 12 and struggled early, but the Grizzlies finished strong across the front nine.
Tan played her final 10 holes at one under, Weber played her final seven holes at even par, Green played her last 11 holes at one over, and Reeve was three over for her final 11 holes.
"This is a challenging course that teaches you a lot about course management and how to continue fighting through your round," Milberger said.
"We definitely had a strong finish after a rough start. I'm proud that the girls finished strong."
Wisconsin (296-293-299), which broke 300 in all three rounds, won the tournament at +24. Minnesota (304-296-294) was second at +30, Nevada (308-304-298) third at +46.
The Badgers had the top two individual finishers in Kimberly Dinh (72-70-74), who was even par, and Kris Yoo (71-72-74), who was one over.
The BYU at Entrada Classic was Montana's fourth of six tournaments of its spring season. Montana will have a nearly three-week break before competing at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at the Ocotillo Golf Resort at Chandler, Ariz., April 8-10.
The Ocotillo Golf Resort will also host the Big Sky Conference championship April 21-23.
