Marquette defeats men's tennis team 4-3

For the third time this spring, the Montana Grizzlies men's tennis team lost a team duel by one point. Kris Nord's squad fell to Marquette University 4-3 at Boise, Idaho in the two schools' first ever meeting.

"It was kind of the same old story," Nord said. "We let them off the hook at No. 2 doubles. We were up in that match, and we ended up losing it, and that cost us the doubles point."

In doubles play, UM lost by way of a tiebreaker at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. At No. 3, the new combo of Andrew Warren and Eric Braun lost to Nick Dykema and Cameron Tehrani 8-1.

In singles flights, there were two more tiebreakers that didn't go the Grizzlies' way. Andrew Warren fell at No. 2 singles in three sets after a 7-6 (7-4) third set tiebreaker loss.

"We ended up splitting the singles, and we lost two of the tiebreakers in the third set. Our guys are playing well, and I'm happy with how we played," Nord said. " I just feel like we really deserve to get a win, and we're not quite knocking the door down."

Griz players won at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

"Our guys fought well through all of those matches," Nord added. "We just really have to have the doubles point -- it comes back to that. I'm happy with our singles play, we could have easily won two more of those singles, but our guys competed well and that's all I'm asking them to do."

The Griz play Utah State tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
