Women's tennis team dominates UC Riverside 6-1

The Montana Grizzlies women's tennis team dominated UC Riverside 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in Southern California.
The challenges of playing outdoor tennis for the first time in a season -- warmer weather, elements, sea-level affecting the ball -- they posed no threat to Montana's netters.
UM swept the doubles point, with the closest match being Precious Gbadamosi and Haley Driver's 8-6 win over Jasmine Almaguer and Kate Bergeson. Sasha Carter and Laurence Pelchat won easily 8-1, while Ashley Mackey and Maddy Murray won 8-2.
"We've just been playing simple, with a really simple match plan," Laurence Pelchat said of her and Carter's doubles strategy. "And it's been working great."
Pelchat said the wind provided an added challenge, but not one too difficult to overcome.
"The wind was pretty crazy, but everyone handled it pretty well," said Pelchat, who won her singles match 6-1, 6-0. I think that's the craziest wind I've played with since I've been here, but it was good. No one got mad, and we just played with it."
In singles play, UC Riverside's Almaguer narrowly defeated Precious Gbadamosi 6-4, 5-7, (10-6).
The rest of the singles flights? Domination.
Driver won with ease 6-1, 6-0, as did the rest of the lineup -- No. 2 through No. 5. The Griz had six combined shutouts in 12 sets. By just skimming the scoresheet you'll see mostly 6-0 sets.
Montana, after a three week match break, are now winners of four straight. Ascher's squad takes on nationally-ranked Long Beach State Saturday at 12 p.m.
"We're really excited to have the opportunity to play them," Pelchat added.
