The Montana women's tennis team wrapped up a competitive appearance at the ITA Mountain Regional tournament in Provo, Utah, over the weekend with three wins in singles and one win in doubles.

Four Grizzlies represented Montana at the regional tourney – the premiere fall event on UM's calendar - with Kelsey Phillips, Kate Prichard, Meghna Anand and Monika Fizova testing themselves against the top players in the Rocky Mountain West.

Montana went 3-7 in singles and 1-4 in doubles overall, while forcing three more singles matches to a third set and one more to a tiebreaker in doubles.

Sophomore Monika Fizova had the best outing for the Griz, going 2-1 in singles with wins over two opponents from Weber State, and partnering with fellow sophomore Kate Prichard to earn a doubles win over another Wildcat pair.

"The players competed well, tightening up sets and working to put themselves in close scoring situations with their opponents. I love how they continued to respond when the matches got closer and kept forcing their opponents to ask harder questions as the matches progressed," said head coach Steve Ascher.

"We showed a lot of growth physically, mentally, and strategically as the tournament went on."

Montana will cap the fall tournament season in Spokane at the Gonzaga Invitational, set to be held Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at GU's Stevens Tennis Center.
